Guide on How to start Pinterest Affiliate Marketing In 2019 : Make money Online with Pinterest4/3/2019 Guide On how to start Pinterest Affiliate Marketing in 2019 : Make Money Online with Pinterest
"Pinterest Affiliate Marketing" Such a big word, which is practically a gateway to a new world.
Well, a few weeks ago I didn't even know that Pinterest affiliate marketing existed. How did I found out about Pinterest Affiliate Marketing
Well, just like anyone out there, I wanted to make money online without a blog or website and most importantly which is completely free because hey I don't have money to spend on these things mainly because I am jobless. (I am sure that this thought might have come to your mind as well.)
So, I started doing research and came across not only the broad topic affiliate marketing but on Pinterest Affiliate Marketing, which we can say is a way to do affiliate marketing. Put it in simple wording, Pinterest Affiliate Marketing is simply putting affiliate products which has been allowed to promote by an affiliate programs as pins in Pinterest. Sound easy, right. It is easy. (But don't get your hope high up so soon because it will take time for you to generate an income from Pinterest but monthly viewers, monthly engagement and followers will definitely increase if you follow my guide. That I guarantee you.)
Everything that I am going to tell you about Pinterest Affiliate Marketing, the steps to take and all are things that I have tested myself.
Let's start with the guide, shall we?
1. Create Pinterest Account
This is the first step that you need to do, which is to create Pinterest account using your gmail. When you create your Pinterest account, it will be a personal account but you don't want that. What you want is a business account. So, the first thing you need to do after creating your Pinterest account, is to switch it to business account by simply clicking the 3 dots on the top right side of your account and click switch to business account which is completely free. This will enable you to make use of the Pinterest Analytic tools that are provided in the business account.
If you already has a Personal Pinterest Account, which you have created long ago then no problem you can use it by deleting the stuff you don't need on your account and switch it to business mode. (Don't worry, switching to business mode is completely free and you won't lose any of your previous pins) 2.Choose a Niche
You must have heard everyone say that you need to think thoroughly about the niche you want to venture in when starting a blog or website. Well, this is also applicable when starting a Pinterest Affiliate Marketing. You need to think what niche you want to promote on Pinterest.
On Pinterest the top 10 Niches and sub-niches are the following:
Click on Analytics, then Audience Insights, then on All Pinterest users to see the niches
3.Create Brand Logo & Brand name
You need to decide the brand name which will relate to the products who intend to promote on your Pinterest and you need to make sure that the name is not only simple but easy to remember. Don't use fancy wording because will tend to forget it. Just use easy to remember and type in name.
After that you need to create a Logo. I know that quality logo for business can prove to be expensive and some of you won't be able to afford it. Some of you might be thinking why invest so much in a business which you are not sure is going to be successful. I know you will search for free software to create Logo or design it yourself but what is I tell you there is a website where you can create high quality elegant logo suitable for your website for free?
It is the same website I used to create my logo completely free and I have used lots of free online logo creating but this one is my favourite: FreeLogoDesign Website.
If you don't already have a website where you can create logo for free, then I recommend you to use this website. I am sure you will find it useful. 4.Choose Sub- niche for your board
This is very important for you to change the username in the Pinterest account because it will be integrated in the url of your business Pinterest account.
Go to the setting, in the edit profile, look for username and in the blank box put your brand name without any space between the word
5. Board Creation
You need to create at least 5 boards which is relevant and popular in the niche you have chosen. You need to treat the boards as sub-niche to your broad niche.
One way to find the popular sub- niche in the niche you have chosen is again to go the audience insights, then on All Pinterest Users. On the right side of the Categories and Interest, you will see list of sub niche in a specific broad niche. For example, If you have chosen DIY & Crafts niche, you can create 5 boards consisting of Fabric crafts, diy projects, knitting & crochets, kid's craft and diy stationary. (These will be your sub-niches)
After creating your board, make sure to edit your board and put it in the right category and put a description about what your board will be about. You can either write paragraph containing your main keywords or simple put keywords.
6. Affiliate Program
After you have created your board, I will suggest that you sign up to an affiliate program before continuing with your Pinterest affiliate Account because what the use of creating a Pinterest Affiliate account if your application get declined by a affiliate Program and also it take time to get approval from an affiliate program.
The affiliate Program which I highly recommend for Pinterest is either Amazon Associates or Shareasale. If you are a complete newbie, then I suggest you use Shareasale as you are guarantee to get approval as this affiliate program accept international affiliate marketer.
I am not saying that Amazon Associates is bad or anything like that. It is very good but the problem I got with Amazon Associates is the Tax Formalities that need to be completed. No matter, how many I try to fulfil the tax demand, my application remain incomplete which lead to me giving up on Amazon Associates.
If you have successfully completed the application for Amazon Associates, then I highly recommend you use it as people are familiar to amazon products and trust amazon, so you will surely make earning from amazon affiliate link when the people will see the affiliate product belonging to a known trustworthy website.
But for those who didn't have a chance with Amazon Asssociate, then I recommend Shareasale. You can also use it along side Amazon Associates and provide a variety of products in your Pinterest account which are available in your niche from different known brands.
The reason why I have told you to apply to the affiliate program now after creating you Pinterest business Account and having edit it, is because Shareasale will ask for your website url and details about what your website intend to do.
So, you can submit the Pinterest url which contain your brand username in it. (this is the reason why I told you you need to put your brand username to the pinterest.com/____ if you still remember.) Don't worry, Shareasale will accept the pinterest url having your brand username in it. Now, you might see a message saying that your application is being reviewed and you will be notified whether your application is approved or declined in just 1 business days. This is not the case. You will get a notification regarding your application within the 3 business days or less. I know most of you will say you got your approval in just 1 business day but for those who see that after 1 business day, you didn't get any email yet (Like what happened with me) then don't panic because Shareasale usually take 3 business days to review your application IF the workload is too much. You just need to sit back and wait for approval. Just kidding. This is where the real work starts, even before getting approved. You need to start the working in your Pinterest Account. 7. Add Pins to your boards
I know you will say you haven't been approved for affiliate programs yet so how can you start pinning stuff to your board.
Well, I am just telling you to pins stuff belonging to other people into your board making sure it is relevant to the board. I suggest that you pin 15 stuff from others people into each of your boards, making sure to not pin those images which belong directly to the merchant or company or brand. What you need to do is pin stuff belonging to people who is either an affiliate marketer or personal user or a blogger, not a merchant/ vender otherwise you will not be able to increase your followers. Maybe you are thinking how you will know whether the specific pins belong to a merchant/ vender or not.
It is very simple. You will usually see a price put in the title part of the product and there is no specific keyword or hashtags in the description part.
You will see here there is a price tag in the title and in the description part there is no keyword or hashtags but rather a summary of the products.
This pin is directly from the merchant/ vendor and this is the same type of pin you need to avoid at the time being because you are just starting you Pinterest Affiliate Marketing and you need real people as audience who will engage with your profile not a robot.
I hope you are getting my point here.
Another point you need to take into consideration when pinning stuff to your boards, is to pin stuff which is in the Pinterest Format, because these types of pins are more favoured in Pinterest. 8. Strategy to Increase your followers
This process is very important, which you need to start before even creating your affiliate products.
The process is very simple. You just need to follow the people who are interested in your niche. How do you do that? The simplest way to do that is just looking for boards in your niche and selecting the board you want. You then need to follow the owner of the boards and the followers of that owner because you already know that those followers are interested in this niche so they will obviously be interested in your niche. Keep in mind that you can only follow 200 people every 2 hours. So, I will suggest you distribute the number of people you follow according to the different type of boards you have. Find people who are interested in each of your board. (I hope you understand this) I will suggest you follow only 600 people at first and lets the people come to you. Another thing you need to do is to join group boards which is essential is you want to promote your affiliate product. Group boards already have a number of loyal followers, so by pinning your product to those group boards, your pins will be seen by lots of people and help you make a sale. Don't go ahead and pin your stuff in group boards just like that. You need to ask permission to the owner of the group board to join it by either emailing the group board owner or clicking on the invite button if the owner has put one. You need to make sure you complete the conditions for joining the group board, which is different for each group boards. The conditions can be found at the top of the group board as a description. Now, through my experience I have notice that requesting permission through the invite button is lot easier than requesting through email. It actually took me 2 weeks to get accepted to a group board when I sent the request by email (I had no choice as there was no invite button) but for those group which had an invite button, I got accepted within 2 days. This is why it is preferable to request for permission as earliest as possible because group board can boost your impression as affiliate marketer. 9. What to do after I got approval from affiliate program (ShareAsale or Amazon Associates)I will talk about ShareAsale Affiliate Program because this is the program I have tried and has experience in. So, after approval, your task is to start creating affiliate links to a specific program and put it in your Pinterest by just creating new pin. You will see that when creating a Pin, you will need to put an image, title, description, destination link and the designated board. When you will create the affiliate link, you will tend to just save the product image and upload it directly into your pinterest. Well, this is not the right way to do that because the image will not be in the Pinterest Format size (most of the time) and also a single image might not showcase the true talent of the product, if I may say so. So, what you need to do is create a product showcase which you can do it on Canva. This is very simple. What I mean by product showcase is just a collage of the product (if the product has different image or offers different design). But if there is only one image of the product then it is better to make it into the Pinterest Format size which you can find it on Canva.
This is an example of the collage of the affiliate product I was promoting. There was different variety of the product which I wanted to showcase and did it in a Pinterest Format size.
So this is what you have to do. Just make it pretty. You can make mock up to showcase the product. But make sure that you use colourful colours and some light colour because Pinterest all about visual and light coloured pins are very much appreciated on Pinterest.
After that you just need to edit your title and description making sure you make use of keyword which people are searching for for that particular niche. One Keyword search tool I recommend for you to use for Pinterest is Pinterms- Pinterest Keyword tool, which is simply a free chrome extension and it can prove to be very beneficial if you know how to use it.
Quick tutorial on how to use Pinterms- Pinterest Research Tool
The Symbol "P" is the chrome extension which will be automatically place on you chrome after installation.
All you need to do is left click on it and choose open keyword research tool. One thing you need to make sure is that when you open the Pinterms keyword research Tool, your Pinterest account is also open because the keyword research tool will fetch the word you search on Pinterest. If you don't open your Pinterest, then you keyword research tool will be blank when typing the keyword because the research tool don't have the access to Pinterest.
This is how it looks upon opening up tthe keyword research tool. Type in the keyword in the Enter Seed Keyword and then click start. You will see your result coming up on the right.
I searched for woman boots and after some time I got the result.
Now what I will do is select the keyword that best suited for my current product because I don't want to mislead any Pinterest users. But here I will use the keyword as hashtags, which had proved to be very efficient because within 2 weeks i got 1.5k monthly viewers and right now when I am writing this I have 1.7k monthly viewers (I am so happy when I am writing this because hey who won't be happy to see your hard work pay off even if it is a small one), with the use of only hashtags.
Another way you can find keyword people are searching for is through the Pinterest Search Bar.
Remember this bit, Pinterest is NOT like other Social media platform. You need to treat Pinterest as a search engine if you want to become successful on Pinterest. Don't search for the keywords on google or keyword everywhere tool because it won't work on Pinterest. What you need to do is just type in your niche on the search bar and let pinterest search for the keywords.
See I type fabric craft and I got to sell, ideas and so on. So I get put #fabriccrafttosell #fabriccraftideas
Here you need to choose the keyword and go more in depth with the search.
See, I went more in depth with the search and got more keywords. If you are trying to promote fabric craft which is no sew craft then you have to put those keyword in the description of the pin you are creating, like #fabriccraft #fabriccrafttosell #fabriccraftnosew #fabriccraftgiftideas and so on.
You need to combine it with the keyword you obtained from Pinterms also. Pretty easy right?
You have already created your pins. Now what?
You are almost done with creating your Pinterest Affiliate Account. All you remain to do is make it beautiful just a little bit more.
How to do that? It is very easy to accomplish all you need to do is change the covers of each of your board and create a slideshow of your affiliate product on your overview page so that when people comes to your profile, they will know what type of product you promote. To change the covers of your board, you just need to click on the grey crayon on the board and you will see cover, click on change and choose your best product on that specific board which will be the face of that board. Then click save. To create the slideshow, just go on setting which will open the edit profile page. Stay on that page and scroll down where it says Featured Boards. Click Edit and choose your best 5 boards to be placed in the slideshow, then click on save. YOU ARE DONE. WELL DONE. Before going I just want to tell few important things you need to know about Pinterest. Important things to remember
For those who don't know what Tailwind is, I will explain it to you. Tailwind a Pinterest Scheduler tool which automatically pin stuff to the board you have designated the pin to be placed on a specific date and time. So, it is a paid software for automatic pinning. You just need to spend one day scheduling the pinning and let Tailwind do the rest. This is not good because Pinterest changes constantly and so does the trends on Pinterest. So, how are you going to know what is trending today if you don't log into your account and manually search for it. Tailwind will not do that for you. Tailwind will not pin stuff which is trending today and thus not helping you increase your followers. You will get lots of pin on your boards but your monthly viewers and engagement will increase at a slow pace. I am not saying Tailwind is bad because it is not bad but a saviour in case of emergency. However, not doing manual pinning will prove to be your BIGGEST MISTAKE. Use Tailwind rarely, when you are kinda caught up in other things and know you won't be able to do manual pinning in those days but most of the time you need to do manual pinning, at least 20 manual pinning a day.
